About

This is my nerd cave. So expect nerd stuff mainly. Other stuff I've written elsewhere. If you want to get to know more about me join me in Western Germany for a glass of wine or whiskey. Or let's meet somewhere in Sweden or Denmark at the Baltic sea where I like to be for vacation.

I love the sea, open waters, being on the water, rowing, sayling, surfing.

Regarding tech: I like small, sustainable and free (libre) tech solutions like Gemini and the small web.

Regarding operating systems I'm a Mac user since 1992 and was a great fan of Mac OS X from 10.1 to 10.6. I used it until 10.15, then switched to use GNU/Linux mainly, but still did not get got used to it too much. UX wise I'd like to run a combination of Cocoa/GNUstep[1] and elementary OS[2] which obviously does not exist right now.

For work I'm using Debian[3] (Linux Mint Edition[4]) and Ubuntu MATE[5] which I consider the best desktop experience of the Free and Open Source World (FLOSS) right now.

Somehow it's a result of these considerations why I'm working on ObjGTK[6] to combine the power of Objective-C (by using ObjFW[7]) and popularity of GTK[8].

I support projects like Ubuntu Touch[9] and Phosh[10] which I consider essential to keep software freedom in a world that mainly uses software on servers/the cloud for the services and mobile devices for the users. Regarding that I consider the Volla Phone[11], the PinePhone[12] and the Librem 5[13] the most important technical inventions and contributions of the last years.

Obviously I love the freedom of sources, the freedom of education and thus keep hacking 0100 freedom.[14]

The layout of these pages is inspired by ATYH.net[15], a Gemini page I really like.
